Registration is regulated in terms of clause 53of SI 282 of 2017as read with section 82 (1) of the Labour Act (Chapter 28.01). Members of the National Employment Council for the Engineering and Iron and steel industry are those that do engineering and iron and steel business as defined under clause 3 (2) of the Statutory Instrument 134 of 2017.

Members Include:

  • Individuals
  • Sole traders
  • Partnerships
  • Small to medium business (SMEs)
  • Private limited companies and public limited companies

The National Employment Council for the Engineering and Iron and Steel Industry promotes investment by creating the easy to do business environment through:

  • Promoting industrial harmony in the workplace,
  • Offering alternative dispute resolution effectively and expeditiously
  • Offering up to date human resources advice,
  • Assisting social partners to conclude workplace agreements
  • Offering training of workers committees, works councils, health and safety committees
  • Certification of membership that will enable members to qualify for government tenders.

There is no cost. Membership is absolutely free. After registration, a member is given for free all the relevant and necessary statutory instruments (collective bargaining agreements) of the industry.

The National Employment Council for the Engineering and Iron and Steel Industry has members that are all over the country. The Designated Agents are always available on demand. For areas that are outside administrative towns where we have offices, Designated Agents make routine visits once every month.
