The National Employment Council (NEC) for the Engineering Iron and Steel industry was established in terms of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01]. Its main function is to service the Engineering Iron and Steel Industry in Zimbabwe. It is a statutory body formed in terms of section 56 and registered in terms of section 59 of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01]. The NEC is mandated with the responsibility of advancing social justice and democracy in the workplace by ensuring adherence to fair labour practice. It is a bipartite labour body comprising of employer and employee organisations specifically dealing with labour-related issues.
